Had another good weekend, got some solid Assault points in Lebros Cavern while teaching Nightson the ropes. Had a near perfect ENM run with two NMs on the way up, both dropped their pop items (for Dia Wand and Hamayumi).
On Sunday Rok and I planned to go out in the sun for a while, but before we did I read up on my Crossbow choices now that my RNG is lvl 66. I never really looked at the Othinus’ Bow before, simply because 1) I thought it was a flipping Bow ! Its not, its a crossbow, and 2) I looked at the damage-per-second list on Somepage and it never seemed to stand out. However I missed an important fact – Ranger has massive burst damage with Sidewinder and Barrage so high single shot DMG range weapons are very favourable.
Othinus’ Bow has an extremely high delay on it, pretty much the same delay you get on Longbows, but compensates for this by having a stupidly high DMG rating per shot. I could feel the saliva flowing in my mouth at this point. So without any real planning I headed down to Gustav Tunnel with my NPC on standby. I read up on his spawn details (2-8 hours pop from placeholder gobs in Gustav Tunnel) and thought I’d give it a few chances to pop. I wiped all the gobs in the area while getting crab aggro at the same time, then shortly after the next wave starting popping I was called down to help make breakfast.
I got back to the game with crumpets in hand and started clearing through the gobs again. I was about 1 microsecond away from pulling the next gob when I realised his name was kinda long – Wyvernpoacher Drachlox. Time to sneak and invis and check for a good camp point. I pondered for a while wondering if I could really kill it solo with my NPC as backup, but decided to call for help from the LS instead. Realia (WHM75) was there in a flash, with Rok (RDM75) closely behind, so I quickly grabbed that poacher while he was clear of links.
EES got me for about 800HP if I remember right, but that was but a flesh wound to me especially with 3 healers backing me up. So it wasn’t long before he was going down fast to my Hundred Fists, and bugger me if I didn’t go 1/1 on this little gem:
